Will fancy press kits make or break your campaign?
Posted on December 30, 2007
One common conundrum that plagues many PR practitioners today is the press kit. How much is too much and how much is too little? At the end of the day, it’s down to what the media really wants. So what does the media really want?
At times, clients and even PR practitioners themselves are too keen on giving out really fancy press kits, hoping to impress the media. Impressing the media is a must but it’s not worth it anymore when in the ferocity of doing so, one loses track of the story that he or she is really trying to tell to the publics. What is the use of a fancy press kit when a journalist has to constantly call a PR practitioner over and over again to check and clarify information. It’s not only a waste of time and money but also very annoying to the journalist.
Bottomline is, a press kit should contain only accurate information and facts presented in a way that underline the desired story angle. Afterall, the objective is to get a story out and no, not a story about a fancy press kit. That said, packaging the information and facts into an impressive and memorable press kit is sure to score some brownie points with the press, as can be seen in this story here.
So thread with care, leave the fluff and bombastic vocabulary at home and let the journalists perform their very own literary magic.

KimKomm v2.0
Posted on December 29, 2007
I would like to wish Ms. Kim Ong, my former partner and comrade in crime all the best in her future ventures. KimKomm may have lost an articulate, intelligent, talented and immensely beautiful woman but the world outside gains another. I am positive that greatness will follow Kim whenever she goes.
This site has gotten a minor revamp. Mostly information update and some tweaking. I have updated the KimKomm’s CREDENTIAL with the latest list of KimKomm’s clients which include Radiant Investments Ltd., Nuffnang Sdn. Bhd. and F&N.
Currently, I am also personally involved with the publicity campaign of MidZone Countdown 2008. It’s a countdown party to usher in the Year of the Rat that will be held on the 31st December 2007 at The Boulevard, Mid Valley City. While this project is unrelated to KimKomm (I’m doing it in my capacity as a communications consultant, together with another PR consultant), it’s very dear to my heart as I got to see with my very own eyes, the buzz and publicity generated by my beloved friends cum bloggers and various websites.
MidZone Countdown 2008 is set to be the biggest countdown party of the decade in Malaysia and I’m proud to be part of it.
